ADONIS VERNALIS - A Heart Remedy
-->
ADONIS VERNALIS PLANT
This Remedy like Convallaria comes to us from Russia, and, like many of our best remedies was first used by the common people as a remedy in dropsy and heart disease.
Experiment was first made by Dr. Botken, the result of which were described by Dr. Butnon in a graduating thesis.
This is a very special plant because it is a potent heart medicine. The plant contains something called glycoside Adonidin, which is used in remedies for chronic heart problems and as a tranquilizer. It works almost exactly like digitalin, which comes from Foxgloves, but is stronger and doesn't build up in the body. It is used especially in cases where people are also suffering from kidney disease, as well as heart problems. It does produce vomiting and diarrhea, however and is only used when digitalis fails.

Commentary on Organon of Medicine: Aphorism 8
APHORISM: § 8
It is not conceivable, nor can
it be proved by any experience in the world, that, after removal of all
the symptoms of the disease and of the entire collection of the
perceptible phenomena, there should or could remain anything else
besides health, or that the morbid alteration in the interior could
remain uneradicated.(5)
FOOTNOTE: 5
When a patient has been cured of his disease by a true physician, in such a manner that no trace of the disease nor morbid symptom, remains, and all the signs of health have permanently returned, how can anyone, without offering an insult to common sense, affirm in such an individual the whole bodily disease still remains in the interior?
FOOTNOTE: 5
When a patient has been cured of his disease by a true physician, in such a manner that no trace of the disease nor morbid symptom, remains, and all the signs of health have permanently returned, how can anyone, without offering an insult to common sense, affirm in such an individual the whole bodily disease still remains in the interior?
And yet the chief of the old school,
Hufeland, asserts this in the following words: "Homoeopathy can remove
the symptoms, but the disease remains." (Vide Homoepathie, p. 27, 1,
19.) This he maintains partly from mortification at the progress made by
homoeopathy to the benefit of mankind, partly because he still holds
thoroughly material notions respecting disease, which he is still unable
to regard as a state of being of the organism wherein it is dynamically
altered by the morbidly deranged vital force, as an altered state of
health, but he views the disease as a something material, which, after
the cure is completed, may still remain lurking in some corner in the
interior of the body, in order, some day during the most vigorous
health, to burst forth at its pleasure with its material presence!
So dreadful is still the blindness of the old pathology! No wonder that it could only produce a system of therapeutics which is solely occupied with scouring out the poor patient.
Prasad Rasal:
After explaining the Importance of the Totality of the Symptoms, Dr Samuel Hahnemann wanted to explain that removal of the Totality of the Symptoms means the removal of the disease in its full extent. Because, Totality of the Symptoms is the expression of the internal dynamic disorder of the Vital Force. If this totality disappears in toto, naturally the internal disease disappears.
Already, James Krauss has explained this concept in his Introduction to the Sixth Edition of the Organon in the sentence: Cessat Effectus Cessat Causa means remove the effects and you remove the disease, the cause of the effects.
Foot Note: In this foot note, Dr Samuel Hahnemann mentioned the criticism done by Hufeland, the chief of the old school during his time in the following words: "Homoeopathy can remove the symptoms, but the disease remains." Dr Hahnemann explained the two reasons behind the criticism of Hufeland.
- After understanding the dynamic
concept of the disease, Hufeland might be thinking the cause of the
disease is material. For e.g. If a patient of Enteric Fever or Typhoid
comes towards a Homoeopath, naturally his Widal Test is positive because
Widal Test measures the titre of the antibodies against the Salmonella
antigen. If the titre is above 1:80, it is considered as a positive test
and a person is labelled as a typhoid patient. After prescribing him
the Homoeopathic medicine, naturally due to the dynamic stimulus, his
immune system starts reacting in a natural manner producing more
antibodies against the antigen. His complaints disappear after the
medicine, but the titre increases as the antibodies get increased. As
the old school measures the disease in the material form, according to
their concept it looks as if Homoeopathy can remove the symptoms, but
the disease remains. This is only because of a wrong concept and logic
was used by the old school.
- The second reason explained by the Hahnemann was that Hufeland might not had ever liked the progress of this dynamic homoeopathic science. But, I personally, don't think it so. It's definitely due to strong hold of the Materialistic Concept in Hufeland's mind.
At the end of the foot note, He again criticized the Materialistic & Pathological aspect of the Old School.
Commentary on Organon of Medicine: Aphorism 7
Organon of Medicine | APHORISM 7
Now, as in a disease, from which no manifest exciting or maintaining cause (causa occasionaliss) has to be removed1, we can perceive nothing but the morbid symptoms, it must (regard being had to the possibility of a miasm, and attention paid to the accessory circumstances, § 5) be the symptoms alone by which the disease demands and points to the remedy suited to relieve it – and, moreover, the totality of these its symptoms, of this outwardly reflected picture of the internal essence of the disease, that is, of the affection of the vital force, must be the principal, or the sole means, whereby the disease can make known what remedy it requires – the only thing that can determine the choice of the most appropriate remedy – and thus, in a word, the totality2 of the symptoms must be the principal, indeed the only thing the physician has to take note of in every case of disease and to remove by means of his art, in order that it shall be cured and transformed into health.
1 It is not necessary to say that every intelligent physician would first remove this where it exists; the indisposition thereupon generally ceases spontaneously. He will remove from the room strong-smelling flowers, which have a tendency to cause syncope and hysterical sufferings; extract from the cornea the foreign body that excites inflammation of the eye; loosen the over-tight bandage on a wounded limb that threatens to cause mortification, and apply a more suitable one; lay bare and put ligature on the wounded artery that produces fainting; endeavor to promote the expulsion by vomiting of belladonna berries etc., that may have been swallowed; extract foreign substances that may have got into the orifices of the body (the nose, gullet, ears, urethra, rectum, vagina); crush the vesical calculus; open the imperforate anus of the newborn infant, etc.
2 In all times, the old school physicians, not knowing how else to give relief, have sought to combat and if possible to suppress by medicines, here and there, a single symptom from among a number in diseases – a one-sided procedure, which, under the name of symptomatic treatment, has justly excited universal contempt, because by it, not only was nothing gained, but much harm was inflicted. A single one of the symptoms present is no more the disease itself than a foot is the man himself. This procedure was so much the more reprehensible, that such a single symptom was only treated by an antagonistic remedy (therefore only in an enantiopathic and palliative manner), whereby, after a slight alleviation, it was subsequently only rendered all the worse.
Dr Prasad Rasal:
After explaining the Importance of the Unprejudiced Observation & Portrait of the Disease, Dr Samuel Hahnemann explain about the Importance of the Causa Occasionalis or the Maintaining Cause and Totality of the Symptoms.
The things which maintains the disease are called as the Maintaining Causes which are responsible to produce the False Chronic Diseases. Removal of the maintaining cause removes the false disease. Dr Hahnemann explained the number of examples of the Maintaining causes in the first foot note to this paragraph as, “It is not necessary to say that every intelligent physician would first remove this where it exists; the indisposition thereupon generally ceases spontaneously. He will remove from the room strong-smelling flowers, which have a tendency to cause syncope and hysterical sufferings; extract from the cornea the foreign body that excites inflammation of the eye; loosen the over-tight bandage on a wounded limb that threatens to cause mortification, and apply a more suitable one; lay bare and put ligature on the wounded artery that produces fainting; endeavor to promote the expulsion by vomiting of belladonna berries etc., that may have been swallowed; extract foreign substances that may have got into the orifices of the body (the nose, gullet, ears, urethra, rectum, vagina); crush the vesical calculus; open the imperforate anus of the newborn infant, etc.”
If there is no Maintaining Cause in the case, the external manifestations i.e. symptoms indicates the internal dynamic derangement of the disease. Dr Hahnemann labels it by Totality of the Symptoms. He defines it as an outwardly reflected picture of the internal essence of the disease, that is, of the affection of the vital force. Totality of the Symptoms is the only important tool to find out the Similimum. He further says that it is the only thing that can determine the choice of the most appropriate remedy – and thus, in a word, the totality of the symptoms must be the principal, indeed the only thing the physician has to take note of in every case of disease and to remove by means of his art, in order that it shall be cured and transformed into health.
Here, he has used the words “by means of his art”. In fact, He has explained in short that Homoeopathy is not only the Science but also an Art. Finding out Characteristic Totality in a case is an Art. Every Homeopath has to develop this Art in himself for finding a Similimum. Let me share one example. One of my student came to me after finishing the case of a 5-6 years girl & told me that, “Sir, she is perfectly Baryata. She is totally shy, not uttered a single word, never answered a single question, never looked at me during case taking. Whatever data I got is from her mother.” I turned towards the girl & offered her sweet globules. She liked them & asked for more. Then I asked her name, her school’s name, address & she started talking very freely. The shyness vanished & similarly the Baryata picture. So, it’s really an Art along with Scientific base.
In the 2nd foot note to this paragraph, He has compared the Homoeopathic aspect of Totality of the Symptoms with the Antipathic aspect of using Single Symptom from the group of symptoms. He criticized this aspect of Single symptom because it never denotes the Individuality & the antipathic prescription based on this Single Symptom is unable to remove the disease in its whole extent. A single one of the symptoms present is no more the disease itself than a foot is the man himself. It acts as a palliative mode of treatment & original disease reappears with greater intensity after finishing the palliative effect of this Antipathic Medicine.
Commentary on Organon of Medicine: Aphorism 6
APHORISM 6: § 6 Sixth Edition:
The unprejudiced observer – well aware of the futility of transcendental speculations which can receive no confirmation from experience – be his powers of penetration ever so great, takes note of nothing in every individual disease, except the changes in the health of the body and of the mind (morbid phenomena, accidents, symptoms) which can be perceived externally by means of the senses; that is to say, he notices only the deviations from the former healthy state of the now diseased individual, which are felt by the patient himself, remarked by those around him and observed by the physician. All these perceptible signs represent the disease in its whole extent, that is, together they form the true and only conceivable portrait of the disease.1
1 I know not, therefore, how it was possible for physicians at the sick-bed to allow themselves to suppose that, without most carefully attending to the symptoms and being guided by them in the treatment, they ought to seek and could discover, only in the hidden and unknown interior, what there was to be cured in the disease, arrogantly and ludicrously pretending that they could, without paying much attention to the symptoms, discover the alteration that had occurred in the invisible interior, and set it to rights with (unknown!) medicines, and that such a procedure as this could alone be called radical and rational treatment.
Is not, then, that which is cognizable by the senses in diseases through the phenomena it displays, the disease itself in the eyes of the physician, since he never can see the spiritual being that produces the disease, the vital force? nor is it necessary that he should see it, but only that he should ascertain its morbid actions, in order that he may thereby be enabled to cure the disease. What else will the old school search for in the hidden interior of the organism, as a prima causa morbi, whilst they reject as an object of cure and contemptuously despise the sensible and manifest representation of the disease, the symptoms, that so plainly address themselves to us? What else do they wish to cure in disease but these?
Prasad Rasal: After explaining how to investigate the Fundamental Cause, next Dr Samuel Hahnemann wants to explain what should be the actual approach of the Homoeopathic Physician for the same. He says that the Homoeopathic Physician should be the Unprejudiced Observer and totally unbiased. His memory should be empty so that he should not consider any medicine that may be in his mind until the whole case-taking is finished. Its quite a difficult thing to achieve, because we are reason and memory gifted human beings, but, these gifts create problems. We immediately start comparing the things that come into our minds, because of those gifts. If we are able to achieve the requested criteria to become unprejudiced, we could consider each case as a new one and individualization could be achieved perfectly. If one is able to achieve such a thing, his inner conscience develops to come to a truth.

The homeopath should find out what changes have taken place during the sickness of the patient. He should collect all this information from the patient, attendants and through his careful exact observation, which represents the disease in its whole extent, that is, together they form the true and only conceivable portrait of the disease.
Hahnemann writes about the "Portrait of the Disease." What does he mean by portrait?
A portrait is a painting, photograph,
sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the
face and its expression predominates. The intent is to display the
likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason,
in photography, a portrait is generally not simply a snapshot, but a
composition, an image of a person in a still position. A portrait often
shows a person looking directly at the painter or photographer in order
to most successfully engage the subject with the viewer. Naturally, if
you are able to create a portrait of the disease, it will be easier to
find out a similimum for it.
Foot Note: In the foot note, Hahnemann compares this homoeopathic methods with the allopathic system and criticizes their case-taking approach; specifically, the way they look inside the human being to find the Prima Causa Morbi. He further questions how they could possibly understand the cause of the disease without carefully attending to the sick? How, on the basis of common symptoms, can they possibly find out the unknown cause, since the basic cause of the disease is dynamic one?

Allopaths continue to find Material Causes as a Prima Causa Morbi
inside the human being and try to remove it with the help of the
unknown medicines. They call themselves rational practitioners of the
healing arts. Hahnemann used the terminology "Unknown Medicine" because
the allopathic drugs were not "proved" on human beings but on the
animals. Naturally, their effects on the human being are unknown, again,
since they were not proved on humans. Every time they enumerate
different reactions which they consider side effects, but actually are
the real effects of those medicines, they overlook the symptoms and look
for something else. This aspect of the allopaths is criticized by Dr
Hahnemann.
The case-taking process should be taken in the manner that Hahnemann teaches even today and that's why allopaths are not able to cure chronic diseases.
Commentary on Organon of Medicine: Aphorism 5
by Dr Prasad Arvind Rasal
Useful to the physician in assisting him to cure are the particulars of the most probable exciting cause of the acute disease, as also the most significant points in the whole history of the chronic disease, to enable him to discover its fundamental cause, which is generally due to a chronic miasm. In these investigations, the ascertainable physical constitution of the patient (especially when the disease is chronic), his moral and intellectual character, his occupation, mode of living and habits, his social and domestic relations, his age, sexual function, etc., are to be taken into consideration.
Dr Prasad Rasal:
Hahnemann turns towards the physician's knowledge about disease and he starts explaining the causes of disease. He first explains the exciting cause of the acute disease, which means the things which excites the disease.
The physician will need to understand these exciting causes of any type such as biological, physical, chemical, psychological, etc, in order to find the causative modality for a prescription.
Hahnemann continues to explain the cause of the chronic diseases i.e., chronic miasms, which he labels by "Fundamental Cause." The homeopathic physician must investigate this Fundamental Cause in order to understand the sick, including these aspects delineated below:

Hahnemann continues to explain the cause of the chronic diseases i.e., chronic miasms, which he labels by "Fundamental Cause." The homeopathic physician must investigate this Fundamental Cause in order to understand the sick, including these aspects delineated below:
- The ascertainable physical constitution guides the physician to understand a few aspects about the patient's individuality for a clear prescription.
- Moral and Intellectual Character provides information dealing with the nature of an Individual and the patient's Intellectual character. Both characteristics are necessary to individualize the patient.
- Occupation guides the physician in understanding potential occupational diseases or hazards, along with the patients perspective toward his job; for instance, whether he likes it or not? The observant physician learns whether the motivations for working, whether out of necessity, passion, or other reason.
- Mode of Living and Habits gives the physician information about the socio-economical status, position and nature of the patient. Habits, in particular, provides an idea regarding the Causa Occationalis, such as maintaining causes. Hahnemann teaches the physician understand his sole duty to remove these causa occationalis from the patient.
- Social and Domestic Relations provides the hints to the nature of the patient, whether he likes company or desires solitude, whether he has any leader qualities or yielding one etc., and his position in the society. Dynamic causes of the number of chronic diseases are hidden in his domestic relations. Common family disputes and family quarrels create stress and turmoil at the psychological level and ultimately creates the disorder.
- Age provides general guidelines of typical common illnesses among age groups. It may be helpful to know whether his age matches his development or not etc.
- Sexual Function: Last but not the least one because especially in India where this aspect is considered as something special and one should not talk or discuss on such matters, the problems at this level remains hidden due to shame ill the disease get advanced. One should not overlook this matter in the investigation of the chronic diseases.

APHORISM 4:
He is likewise a preserver of health if he knows the things that derange health and cause disease, and how to remove them from persons in health.
Prasad Rasal:
In this aphorism, Dr Samuel Hahnemann has added one more most important qualitative requirement of the Homoeopathic Physician & has written in separate aphorism because in fact this is the basic one which every Homoeopathic Physician should develop.
He expects that the Homoeopathic Physician should not be only a Healer but at first, he should be the Preserver of the health. Dr Hahnemann says that if He knows that any person is having certain bad habits which can create the disorder in that person, it id his duty to tell or advise that fellow. There are number of peoples who are having different habits, addictions which can create the disorders in them. It is his sole duty to advise them in a proper way & remove their addictions or habits in order to preserve their health. He should not wait till the disease will develop & then he will treat it.

Commentary on Organon of Medicine: Aphorism 3
by Dr Prasad Arvind Rasal
APHORISM 3:
If the physician clearly perceives what is to be cured in diseases, that is to say, in every individual case of disease (knowledge of disease, indication), if he clearly perceives what is curative in medicines, that is to say, in each individual medicine (knowledge of medical powers), and if he knows how to adapt, according to clearly defined principles, what is curative in medicines to what he has discovered to be undoubtedly morbid in the patient, so that the recovery must ensue – to adapt it, as well in respect to the suitability of the medicine most appropriate according to its mode of action to the case before him (choice of the remedy, the medicine indicated), as also in respect to the exact mode of preparation and quantity of it required (proper dose), and the proper period for repeating the dose; – if, finally, he knows the obstacles to recovery in each case and is aware how to remove them, so that the restoration may be permanent, then he understands how to treat judiciously and rationally, and he is a true practitioner of the healing art .
Dr Prasad Rasal: After defining the Mission i.e. Ideal Cure, Dr Samuel Hahnemann now turns to explain that for achieving the same, how the Homoeopathic Physician should be? This is very logical sequence he has used. He explains the detail the criteria regarding the qualities of the Homoeopathic Physician in order to become a True Practitioner of the Healing Art.
He says that the physician should have:
1. Knowledge of disease, indication: Here in one sentence, he used to put two important things i.e. the He should have in detail knowledge of all types of Diseases in order to understand its pathogenesis along with the prognosis so that he can understand the type of the disease & at the same time He says 'Indication' means how the disease is expressing in the individual thro' the characteristic individualizing symptoms from prescription point of view.
2. Knowledge of medicinal powers: Here He want to explain that only knowledge of the medicine is not important because as the medicines are dynamic, every potency of the medicine acts differently in healthy individual i.e. for e.g. Rhus tox 6, 1M, 10M will show the different reactions in a healthy human beings after proving & act as a different medicine. So, if he understand the medicinal power, he can achieve an exact similimum.
3. Choice of the remedy, the medicine indicated, proper dose, and the proper period for repeating the dose: He should have an Intelligence to utilize both the knowledge to find out the perfect similimum in proper potency & knowledge regarding the repetition of the medicine.
Here regarding the Repetition of the Medicine, the Words of Dr J T Kent are very important to understand. Kent says:
" Last, & least important of all, comes the names of the patients malady. Look it up, if you like, at the very end, and it may joyfully confirm your choice of drug , which it must not unduly bias.
If your patient is an asthmatic patient, it is comforting to know that the drug his symptoms demand has again and again cured bad cases of asthma. But remedies that have never been recorded as having cured asthma will do the trick, if the symptoms of the patient cry out for them, as their similimum.
Drugs have not all been pushed far enough to produce lesions, and their voices do not carry, as a rule, deeper than function – except in the cases of accidental poisoning.
But get the right drug, the stimulus needed, and you will find the reaction of the organism deep enough in all conscience, and long-sustained.
Then KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF! Wait long for a second very definite cry, before you dare to interfere. You may have to wait months – then wait!
Remember, it is the patient who has to cure himself; the drug can not cure him, the drug is only the stimulus that starts the vital reaction.
So long has curative reaction is in progress, it is senseless – criminal – to interfere. This is the way to crush your work, to vitiate your experience, to break your heart.
So long the patient is improving, let him be, and never meddle till he begins to sleep back: that is the first possible moment to repeat, or to reconsider the case.
It is safer to be a little late than a little soon. You must “ go fast slowly ”, there is no other way."
4. Obstacles to Recovery: This is last but not the least He should know i.e. Maintaining Cause of the disease or Causa occasionalis. Unless, one removes them, it is not possible to get the recovery or cure.
With the help of these weapons, He can achieve the Mission i.e. Ideal Cure & then He understands how to treat judiciously and rationally, and He is a true practitioner of the healing art .
APHORISM 3:

Commentary on Organon of Medicine: Aphorism 2
by Dr Prasad Arvind Rasal.
APHORISM 2:
The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of the health, or removal and annihilation of the disease in its whole extent, in the shortest, most reliable, and most harmless way, on easily comprehensible principles.
Prasad Rasal:
In the first aphorism, Dr Samuel Hahnemann has explained the Mission, the Goal of the Homoeopathic Physician. Now, he defines it in the exact manner i.e. one should know exactly the details regarding the mission & that's why he defines it.
The way he defines it is also very much important to get understand. He says..The highest ideal of cure... means ideally speaking how it should be; it is one of the thought. He never say like the Cure should be but how one should think about the Cure. Dr Samuel Hahnemann also knows that it's not possible to achieve what he says regarding the cure but one should go for achieving in that way. This is one of the concept or fantasy regarding the highest ideal of cure.
So, he says that ...is rapid means as fast as possible; ...gentle means without causing the much suffering to the sick person when it is getting achieved; ...and permanent means there should not be any recurrence; ...restoration of health means again bringing back the harmony of mind, body & soul with the help of the Vital Force; means nothing but the removal & annihilation of the disease in its whole extent by removing the totality of the symptoms; ...in the shortest again means as early as possible; ...most reliable means with the known Homoeopathic medicines already proved on healthy human beings i.e. reliability; ...and most harmless way means without causing any damage to the vital organs as happens in the allopathic science; ...based on easily comprehensible principles means it follows the 7 cardinal principles of the Homoeopathy along with the Hering's Law of the direction of the cure.

Commentary on Organon of Medicine: Aphorism 1
§ 1: The physician’s high and only mission is to restore the sick to health, to cure, as it is termed.1
Foot Note 1: His mission is not, however, to construct so-called systems, by interweaving empty speculations and hypotheses concerning the internal essential nature of the vital processes and the mode in which diseases originate in the interior of the organism, (whereon so many physicians have hitherto ambitiously wasted their talents and their time); nor is it to attempt to give countless explanations regarding the phenomena in diseases and their proximate cause (which must ever remain concealed), wrapped in unintelligible words and an inflated abstract mode of expression, which should sound very learned in order to astonish the ignorant – whilst sick humanity sighs in vain for aid. Of such learned reveries (to which the name of theoretic medicine is given, and for which special professorships are instituted) we have had quite enough, and it is now high time that all who call themselves physicians should at length cease to deceive suffering mankind with mere talk, and begin now, instead, for once to act, that is, really to help and to cure.
Prasad Rasal: I feel to restart the commentary on aphorisms from 1-291 because if these are well discussed, everyone will be benefited from them. And Organon is the base of the Homoeopathy because it is a THOUGHT which has given birth to Homoeopathy as a medical science from the intellectual mind of our master Dr Samuel Hahnemann. If one is thorough with the concepts, he can do Homoeopathy very confidently. Organon of Medicine develops the thoughts & concepts in every ones mind.

If one is thorough with the concepts, he can do Homoeopathy very confidently. Organon of Medicine develops the thoughts & concepts in every ones mind.
If you perceive all the aphorisms right from 1 to 291 & look them retrospectively, then you will recognize the beauty & perfectionist mind of the Master. All the aphorisms are written haphazardly but are arranged in such a way that one must study them in sequence from 1 to 291.
He start them with Mission, the Goal of the Homoeopathic Physician in the first aphorism. Unless the mission is fixed, it is not possible to go ahead & that's why one should know his Aim, Goal, Mission.
He has used every word in the whole Organon very specifically. He start with THE PHYSICIAN"S. He has not used the word Doctor but very specifically Physician because Doctorate is given to any person who used to work in any specific part & even to them who are not from medical field. In allopathic science this terminology is used very commonly as they deal with the parts of the human being. The Physician is the person who deals with the Complete Human being including his Physical as well as Dynamic aspect. He is Holistic in his approach. Then he uses HIGH & ONLY. If one has to achieve anything, he should concentrate on his Only Goal. Goal is always Single & not diversified. Homoeopathic Physician has to deal with the Live Human Being & at that time there should not be negligence from his part. He should focus his mind only on The Sick.
Later comes MISSION. The Homoeopathic Physician's work should be a devotion like Missionaries who work for their propagation of religion without expecting anything. There is no selfishness or expectation of gaining anything. HE expects the Homoeopathic Physician should work in the similar manner in order to achieve his goal i.e. Cure.
TO RESTORE are the next words indicates to bring back to original Healthy State from which an Individual became THE SICK.
The whole aphorism revolves around the two words i.e. THE SICK. Dr J.T.KENT has given the detailed explanation regarding why the master has used these words. It is The Man who is Sick & not his parts. It is something Prior invisible present inside which gets Sick at first followed by the manifestations of the disease. It is the invisible, dynamic Vital Force whose office is to preserve the Health gets diseased at first & i.e. Sickness. It's not just doing the nomenclature of the disease on the basis of some common symptoms & labeling it with Diagnosis. In fact it is understanding the Human Being from every aspect to find out the Individuality in order to match with the Similimum on the basis of Symptom Similarity which is necessary to bring The Sick to HEALTH, to CURE. When a person's Mind, Body & Soul remains in perfect harmony for higher purpose of his existence with the the help of a governing Vital Force, he is called to be Healthy. It is the original state before the sickness which is necessary to achieve by bringing back the diseased Vital Force in to the harmony by perfect dynamic Homoeopathic Similimum is called as the CURE.
Last four words AS IT IS TERMED are also too important meaning the cure should be based on the Seven Cardinal Principles of Homoeopathy according to Master & also in the direction of Hering's Law as per Homoeopathic development after Dr Samuel Hahnemann.
Foot Note: Every foot is very important as it gives us exactly opposite aspect used in other medical systems prevalent during Hahnemannian time with detailed explanations & proper criticism against them. In this foot note, he criticized a lot on the allopathy on their Theoretic Aspect. Because, number of allopathic doctors waste their talent & time to find out the Material or Pathological cause of the disease which is difficult to achieve as it is dynamic in nature. Number of Professorships, Doctorates are given to them for finding out something material as a Prima Causa Morbi or finding out some pathological work to label a disease which is not at all useful practically for a suffering sick. He needs a help to come out of the diseased state but instead of helping him by giving some medicine, these people goes on discussing on the material or pathological causes. This attitude of the Allopaths is criticized by the Master. The things are same even today. Even today maximum chronic disease conditions are either labeled as Idiopathic or Psycho-somatic or Auto-immune & there are no medicines to cure them in allopathy except the Steroids, Immuno-suppressives.
That's why Dr Samuel Hahnemann at last says: it is now high time that all who call themselves physicians should at length cease to deceive suffering mankind with mere talk, and begin now, instead, for once to act, that is, really to help and to cure.
This
explanation might look very easy or unnecessary for the Seniors or
Homoeopathic Physicians but I feel that there are many new comers in
this Homoeopathic Field who should know the Homoeopathic Philosophy
thoroughly in order to remain stuck with the same medical science. If
you feel there is repetition, I apologize all the senior colleagues.

Can Vitamin D Treat Pain?
Source: Medscape
Women with dysmenorrhea who take a single high dose of vitamin D
suffer much less menstrual pain and have no need of pain medications for
any reason for up to 2 months, a new study has found.
“To our knowledge, this is the first study investigating the effect
of a single high dose of vitamin D in primary dysmenorrhea,” wrote the
study authors, led by Antonino Lasco, MD, from the Department of
Internal Medicine, University of Messina, Italy.
“Our data support the use of cholecalciferol in these patients,
especially when exhibiting low plasmatic levels of 25(OH)D
[25-hydroxyvitamin D],” they write.
The study is published February 27 in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
Pain Trigger
Dysmenorrhea affects almost one half of menstruating women. The
pelvic pain is believed to be triggered by excessive uterine production
of prostaglandins, synthesized from omega-6 fatty acids before menses,
that control vasoconstriction and uterine contractions.
According to the study authors, vitamin D may act as an
anti-inflammatory and may regulate the expression of key genes involved
in the prostaglandin pathway, causing decreased biological activity of
prostaglandins.
The study included 40 women aged 18 to 40 years who had experienced
at least 4 consecutive painful menstrual periods in the past 6 months
and had a 25(OH)D serum level below the upper limit of the lowest
quartile (<45 ng/mL). They were not taking calcium, vitamin D, oral
contraceptives, or other medications, and they had not used an
intrauterine contraceptive device during the previous 6 months.
The participants could use other means of birth control, however.
They were also allowed to use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
(NSAIDs) as needed, but they had to record their use of these agents.
The women were randomly assigned to receive a single oral dose of
300,000 IUs of vitamin D (cholecalciferol) or placebo 5 days before the
time they expected to begin their next menstrual period.
The primary outcome was intensity of menstrual pain as measured by a
visual analog scale. The secondary outcome was use of NSAIDs.
After 2 months, baseline pain scores decreased 41% among women in the
vitamin D group; there was no difference in scores among women taking
placebo (P < .001). The greatest reduction in pain was among
women in the vitamin D group who had the most severe pain at baseline
(r = -0.76; P < .001)
During the study, none of the women in the vitamin D group needed
NSAIDs to manage pain at 1 and 2 months, whereas 40% of those taking
placebo used an NSAID at least once (P = .003).
Implications for Chronic Pain?
In an accompanying commentary, Elizabeth R. Bertone-Johnson, ScD,
from the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, University of
Massachusetts, Amherst, and JoAnn E Manson, MD, from the Division of
Preventive Medicine, Department of Epidemiology, Brigham and Women’s
Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, said the study
provides support for larger randomized trials of vitamin D for treating
pain-related conditions in women.
Chronic widespread pain and fibromyalgia syndromes are more prevalent
in women, “likely owing to the influence of sex steroid hormones,” they
write.
This future research, they write, must address several key issues.
“First, it is important to know how long reductions in pain
associated with a single high-dose vitamin D therapy would persist and
how often treatment would need to be repeated,” the editorialists write.
They point out that each dose would need to be effective for a lengthy
period for average daily intake to remain below recommended upper
limits.
Because many women will experience dysmenorrhea for several years
until menopause, follow-up of participants in vitamin D trials must be
extended to better evaluate adverse effects and to compare risks and
benefits, they note.
The editorialists also note that it remains unknown whether vitamin D
would improve dysmenorrhea pain in women with higher 25(OH)D levels.
“If these findings are confirmed in future randomized trials, vitamin
D supplementation may become an important new treatment option for
women who experience menstrual pain disorders,” they conclude. “In the
meantime, encouraging all women to obtain the recommended dietary
allowance for vitamin D (?600 IU/d for women of reproductive age), as
well as screening for low serum 25(OH)D levels among women with other
risk factors for vitamin D deficiency, would be a rational interim
approach.”
Pain Site
Approached for comment, Clifford Lo, MD, PhD, Director, Harvard Human
Nutrition Program, and Medical Education Coordinator, Harvard Medical
School Division of Nutrition, said that although the numbers were small,
there was a convincing difference between the placebo and vitamin D
groups in the study.
However, although it is plausible that vitamin D affects
prostaglandins, the study did not specify which prostaglandin or which
pain site might be involved, said Dr. Lo, whose research interests
include vitamin D metabolism.
The study proposes an interesting possible mechanism, “but that’s
certainly not good enough for me to say that this is a good treatment
for pain,” said Dr. Lo. “It’s very premature to say it’s something we
should use.”
Pain associated with dysmenorrhea is generally subjective and not
easily measured, he added. It is difficult to make conclusions about the
effect an agent will have on pain when there is “no convincing
biomarker” for the pain, as was the case with this study, said Dr. Lo.
The 300,000 IU dose of vitamin D used in the study is probably
harmless if taken every month or 2, and even perhaps every week, but it
could cause hypercalcemia if taken daily, said Dr. Lo. The typical
vitamin D dose is 400 to 1000 IU/day.
Dr. Lo pointed out that because the participants in the study had
vitamin D levels below 45 ng/mL, they were not exactly deficient in
vitamin D to begin with. “Most people would say that you’re not
deficient until you’re below 20 ng/ml,” he said. “I would say that half
the American population is below 30 ng/mL.”
Remedies for Bites and Stings
An insect bite or sting usually causes mild painful swelling with redness and itching at the site of the sting. However, some people may be allergic to these stings, or they may have been stung by a poisonous insect. If in doubt, medical assessment should be sought immediately. Animal, snake and human bites are dangerous because of the risk of infection, poison, and bleeding and require immediate medical attention.
LEDUM
This is the most popular remedy for poison oak and for bites and stings of any kind. The sting or bite may be accompanied by swelling around the area, a bluish tinge to the skin, a cold, numb feeling, and an ache. The affected part feels cold but the person doesn't want to cover the part or apply warmth but rather feels better when applying cold.ACONITUM NAPELLUS
A good initial remedy if the person is extremely fearful and panicky after being bitten or stung. This remedy should be used immediately, and can be followed by another bite or sting remedy such as Ledum.APIS
Burning and stinging pain with rapid, pink or red, puffy swelling of the affected part. The affected skin may feel hot, sensitive, tender, and sore. The person feels better when applying cold to the area and feels worse with heat. There may also be itching, especially at night. This remedy is especially useful for jellyfish stings.BELLADONNA
After a bite or sting, if the affected area is scarlet red, swelling rapidly, and feels intensely hot, Belladonna may be indicated. The color of the skin may alternate between red and pale. The person may have headache and dizziness.CANTHARIS
The affected part is very red, intensely burning, and painful after a bite. Watery blisters may develop on the affected part.URTICA URENS
When red, itchy blotches appear on the skin, this remedy is often used. The blotches look like hives and may sting.Thursday, 4 April 2013
HISTORY OF HOMEOPATHY IN INDIA...........
The history of Homoeopathy can be traced as far back as the year 1835
when a Romanian man Dr. John Martin Honigberger visited India. He was
called in by the Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Lahore who was suffering from
paralysis of the vocal cords with swelling of the feet. He treated the
Maharaja dispensing “Dulcamara” in wine, in low potency. This medicine
cured him. The Maharaja was also impressed when he treated his favourate
horse of his ulcer of the leg. Dr. Honigberger became the chief
physician of his court.
Later on after the Maharaja’s death Dr.
Honigberger shifted to Calcutta. In Calcutta, he was known as the
“Cholera Doctor”. He wrote many books among which were “Thirty five
years in The East, Adventures, Discoveries, Experiments and Historical
sketches of Punjab and Kashmir”. He practised in Calcutta up to 1860.
Dr. Honigberger happened to go to Vienna and caught Cholera. He saved
himself by taking Ipecac, every half an hour. This incident greatly
impressed him and he started dispensing Homeopathic medicines both for
himself and for others.
In 1836 in Tanjoor, Dr.
Samuel Brookling, a retired surgical officer, dispensed homoeopathic
medicines to his civilians and army officers stationed at Madras.
In 1836-1867
Dr. Mahendra Lal Sircar, learned about Homoeopathy from a layman,
Rajendralal Dutta, popularly known as Babu Rajen Dutta. He had a number
of cases to his credit. He cured Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar of asthma and
also cured gangrene of the foot of Maharani of Shorapur, and greatly
impressed Raja Sir Radhakanta Deb Bahadur of Shorapur.
On 16th February 1867,
Dr. Sircar wrote an article condemning allopathy titled “On the
Supposed Uncertainity in Medical Science and the Relationship between
Diseases and Medicine”. He was the first man to start a journal on
homoeopathy – “India Medical Review” and to attend the first
Homoeopathic National Congress conference under the chairmanship of Dr.
C. Hering.
In 1867 Dr. Salzar of Vienna was the
founder of Homoeopathic education in India. He influenced two persons
towards homoeopathy namely Dr. P. C. Majumdar and Dr. B. L. Bhaduri. Dr.
Majumdar along with Dr. Roy, Dr. B. N. Banerjee and Dr. Younan
established the first Homoeopathic college in India in the year 1878
under the name of “Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College”.
Dr. S.
C. Ghosh proved many drugs from the Indian herbs and gave them to his
patients in low potency with great results. He compiled a book named
“Drugs of Hindustan”. Unfortunately, nobody noticed this book, until 1970-1971,
when the “Central Council for Research in Indian Medicine and
Homoeopathy” (CCRIM & H) unearthed the book and a number of drugs
were proved.
In August 1869, a Bengali named Babu
Priyanath Bose started a hospital with an OPD (Out Patient Department)
in Allahabad. It was at this centre that Mr. Motilal Nehru took
treatment during his struggle for freedom.
In 1880
Father Augustus Mueller, a priest and teacher of a school founded by
the Society of Jesus in Kankanady in Manglore, started dispensing free
homoeopathic drugs.
In 1902 there was an epidemic
of pneumonic plague and Father Augustus Muller treated most of the
people successfully. He established a plague and leprosy clinic. Seeing
this, the British presented him with the “Kaiser-e-Hind” award. He also
wrote a book entitled “Twelve Tissue Remedies”.
In 1937
the British government had not recognised this system of medicine and
it was for the first time that M.L.A. Miyan Ghias-ud-idin passed a
regulation in the Bengal Assembly to allow recognition and patronage to
homoeopathy. Thus, homoeopathy was introduced in Bengal for the first
time in the pre-independence years.
After independence, the Government was more sympathetic and on 17th Feburary 1948,
Sir Satis Chandra Samanta, M.P from West-Bengal, piloted a move in the
constituent assembly to establish a Central Agitation Body i.e. Central
Council of Homoeopathy. This was passed after a modification by Mr.
Mohan Lal Saxena M.P (U.P). It was supported by Dr. Pattabhi
Sitaramayya, the President of India. Some of the important items in the
draft proposal given by the representative of the All India Institute of
Homoeopathy to the Government of India was of great help to put the
education of homoeopathy on a firm base.
In 1944,
the Government of India set up a five member committee with the Late
Dr. L. D. Dhawale being one of its members. He requested the Government
to recognise and allow Homoeopathic practice and teaching. He wrote a
book in Marathi called the “Homoeopathic Chikitsa”. He was the spearhead
in starting the “Government Homoeopathic Hospital”.
In 1946 the “Council of Homoeopathy” of West Bengal was established with homoeopathy being recognised.
Dr.
B. K. Sarkar, (M. D.), was a renowned teacher in Homoeopathic
Philosophy at Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College. His contribution to
homoeopathy was enormous. His commentaries on the 5th edition of The
Organon were well known. Dr. S. P. Dey compiled one of his collections
into “Essay on Homoeopathy”.
Dr. B. K Bose the “Grand Teacher of
Homoeopathy” passed his M.D. from Chicago and was a direct student of
Dr. Kent. He was an excellent teacher in Materia Medica.
In 1952-1954
the National Congress Government appointed a small committee –
Homoeopathic Reference Committee constituted by Rajkumari Amrit Kaur,
the Union Health Minister of India (1952). Dr. J. C. Mukerjee was
nominated as chairman of this committee comprising of six homoeopathic
practitioners and four allopaths.
In 1956, the
need for creating a post of Honorary Advisor in the committee was felt.
However, the Government approved of this post in 1960, and Dr. Krishna
Gopal Saxena was the first to be appointed.
The Government of
India constituted a Central Council of Health, which was a committee of
Health Ministers from all states and was headed by the Union Minister.
This committee used to meet once a year. It passed a resolution that
each state would give recognition to Homoeopathic colleges from 1960.
Another resolution passed was that the Government of India should
constitute a body to enforce regulations and promote research in
homoeopathy.
The Maharashtra Act was passed in 1960. It constituted two bodies :
1) Court of Examiners (concerned with education and new colleges).
2) Board of homoeopathy (concerned with the regulation of practice and licensing homoeopathic practitioners).
This
Act was known as the “Bombay Act”. Dr. Gilder was the Health Minister.
The court of examiners were looked after by Dr. M. N. Paranjpe and the
Board of homoeopathy by Late Dr. S. R. Wadia who was the president.
Dr.
M. V. Kulkarni followed in the footsteps of Dr. Bhattacharya in Bengal.
He started “Roy and Company” in Mumbai. They were the chief importers
of Mesers B & T (Boericke and Tafel) of America and Schwabe of
Germany. Boger’s Boenninghausen Repertory was first published by Roy and
Company in India. He also started manufacturing homoeopathic drugs in
Maharashtra. Mr. James Fergusson, Governor of Mumbai took treatment from
Dr. Kulkarni.
Dr. S. R. Phatak, an M. D. from Mumbai University, was influenced to practise homoeopathy. He wrote two books :
1) Phatak’s Alphabetical Repertory.
2) Phatak’s Materia Medica.
Dr.
P. Sankaran died at a very young age from cancer of the liver. He
acquired name and fame internationally. In a short span of time, he
wrote a number of booklets (30) on topics relevant and important to the
practice of homoeopathy. He proved the drugs Aqua Marina and Pituita.
Dr.
P. Sankaran popularised low priced editions of books on homoeopathy in
India (not exceeding Rs. 10). He wrote a small card repertory and
started a journal known as the “Indian Journal of Homoeopathy”.
Presently, it is published as the “Indian Journal of Homoeopathic
Medicine”which was formely edited by Dr. K. N. Kasad. Currently, it is
edited by Dr. Praful Barvalia.
Dr. Burjor Boman Behram was an M.B.B.S., who was practising homoeopathy. He died very recently.
Dr.
U. M. Menon, though not a qualified homoeopath, acquired a lot of
wealth of knowledge from homoeopathy. He was the spearhead for starting
the Bombay Homoeopathic Medical College.
The Planning Commission of India gave free aid to colleges from 1966
onwards. Soon, 20 colleges availed of this facility. They were given
aid to start libraries and laboratories. One of the colleges to benefit
from this was the Pune Homoeopathic College.
In 1966,
the Central Government, under the Ministry of Health passed a bill,
which was a joint bill for setting up a Central Council of the Indian
system of Medicine and Homoeopathy. This act was passed in 1969, when Ayurveda was recognised and the Central Council of Ayurveda was formed.
In 1970,
the Government proposed a separate bill on homoeopathy. It took one
year before this bill was submitted to the parliament as new health
ministers had been appointed. The Prime Minister gave consent to pass
this bill in 1971, but unfortunately, because of mid-term elections, it
was delayed.
On 3rd April 1972, it was introduced
in the Rajya Sabha. A Joint Select Committee under the chairmanship of
Smt. Purabi Mukhopadhayay (M.P. West Bengal) was formed. This committee
worked for all the colleges.
On 19th December 1973,
the President gave his consent to the bill and thus the “Homoeopathy
Central Council Act 1973″ was passed. The necessity of this bill was
felt long back because most of the states had recognised colleges but
the course was not established. Therefore, there was a lot of confusion
